Syllables

To speak of syllables is to speak of the decomposition of a word, that is, they are the parts that make up a word.

The union of a letter and a vowel can easily form a syllable, although there are cases where two letters are joined with a vowel.

Words can be classified according to the amount of syllables it has, in this sense we can find:

  • Monosyllables: they are made up of a single syllable.
  • Bisyllables: they are made up of two syllables.
  • Trisyllables: these are words made up of three syllables.
  • Tetrasyllable: they are composed of four syllables.
  • Pentasyllables: are those words that are formed with five syllables.

Similarly, there are two types of syllables:

  • Tonic syllables: are those with a noticeable elevation of tone at the moment of pronouncing it. Some of them have an accent and some do not. Those without an accent are known as a prosodic accent.
  • Unstressed syllables: with those that at the time of pronouncing it, do not have a voice elevation within the word.
