Sample FIRST exam

The University of Cambrige offers certifications that lead us to master the English language once we present and pass all the exams of the program. Many organizations in the world implement this program which has become a standard for training.

The levels of English in Cambringe are:

  • Elementary A2
  • Lower Intermediate B1
  • Intermediate B2
  • Upper Intermediate C1

Each of these levels must be passed after answering an exam that has a similar structure, that is, with the same level of demand for participants from anywhere in the world.

One of those exams in the FIRST , which, like the B2, manages to certify us with an intermediate level of English.

The FIRST (First Certificate in English or FCE) exam is more widely used than the B2, this because the execution of the first one has spread throughout Europe.

A person with an intermediate English certificate can write and read complex texts, with semi-advanced reading comprehension and clarity.

Structure of a FIRST exam

  • “The Speaking” (conversation, duration: 14min)
  • “Reading” (reading, duration: 1 hour)
  • “Writing” (writing, duration: 1 hour 20 min)
  • “Use of English” (use of English, duration: 45 min)
  • “Listening” (auditory test, duration: 40 min)
