It is often used in affirmative, negative and interrogative sentences. The verb must, when used in a negative way, handles two options : must not and mustn´t, both of which mean the same thing.

It also suggests obligation from a subjective point of view. Although both forms have the same meaning, it should be noted that must not tends to be used in formal situations and mustn´t in informal situations. In summary, both state that it is not allowed to do something.
