The personal hygiene is one that each individual puts into practice regularly to keep clean and free of disease or infirmity.

Hygiene habits will depend on gender, age and dependency status (if any). Many times it will also depend on social status and access to resources regulated by the state, such as water, for example.

Some people do not have the resources to buy personal hygiene products or even to keep their house always clean, however, these are cases of extreme poverty, since the basic habits can be carried out by the vast majority.

On the other hand, women and men will not have the same practices, since cleaning needs are different in a certain sense.

Young children, people with disabilities, or some elderly people will need assistance to stay clean.

Importance of personal hygiene

The most important point that we must consider to work on personal hygiene should be the preservation of health : there is less probability of contracting certain diseases if we follow the main rules of cleanliness and personal hygiene.

On the other hand, we cannot deny that maintaining a good appearance is important to all of us, that is why hygiene habits are indicated to continue or improve our image and the appreciation that people have of us regarding this issue.

Every day we carry out tasks that are intended to increase our health or our good appearance, but it is always necessary to know what we can add to our routine to improve it, that is why we will leave some examples.

Over the years, we do many of these activities so naturally that we can do them unconsciously, even if suddenly some sense such as sight fails us. The more we practice them, the more adapted to them we will be.

Examples of personal hygiene

  • Wash your hands before eating and after having contact with dirt.
  • Take a bath at least once or twice every day.
  • Wash your hair regularly.
  • Keep intimate areas clean and smelling good.
  • Use body deodorant.
  • Brush your teeth after every meal.
  • Keep clothes clean and smelling good.
  • Do not eat spoiled food .
  • Wear perfume.
  • Using dental floss for oral health.
  • Clean fingernails and toenails.
  • Do not share personal hygiene resources.
  • Clean the nose.
  • Perform many of these actions in children who cannot do them on their own.
