Examples of intentional fouls and common fouls

A common foul could be a simple unintentional illegal contact.
A flagrant foul or intentional foul is, for example, holding or hitting the opponent with excessive force in such a way as to impede the natural mechanics of shooting or attacking the basket.

For example,

being hit in the face or holding your arm is considered a flagrant foul and is sanctioned with 2 penalty shots (in the NBA there can be 3, depending on the area where the foul was committed) without any other players of the own team or rivals, in the shooting area (the paint).
