Examples of formal letters in English

It is well known that the English language is very important for people who hold positions in transnational corporations, public office and any other activity that requires direct contact with English-speaking individuals.

This is why, especially those who carry out procedures or have conversations in a remote environment and with people who speak English as the only language, must learn to write letters in that dialect. This has been and always will be an effective means of communication.

The formal letters are those that have some degree of importance, both for those who are issued to the recipient, and that support for carrying out different processes. Formal letters in English have a certain different structure than letters in Spanish, so we must take special care in their writing.

Structure of a formal letter in English

  • Sir, Dear, Mrs, Mr, etc.
  • Introduction: I am writing to inquire about / Hereby I would like to know, We are pleased to inform you / We are pleased to inform you (s), Compliance with your request / According to your request, etc.

  • Farewell: Regards or Kind regards, or Best regards, Yours faithfully / Sincerely yours, Thank you for your help / Thanks for your help, etc.

In this example, a small letterhead was placed with the sender of the letter, the recipient’s information, the date, a greeting (“Dear Mr. Smith”), body (“We want to remind you that you must pay the equipment rental fees as soon as possible you hired our company.
