Examples of DNI

In each country there is a document linked to each citizen , which serves as a record of the naturals or foreigners who live in that country, who have nationality or who have a residence permit. This identity document is public and consists of a photograph , full name, date of birth, nationality and other information related to the issuance of the document.

Depending on each country, the identity document may be called the identity card (CI), identity card (CI), citizenship card (CC), passport card (TP), civil registration (RC), immigration card (CE), national identity document (DNI), identity card (TI), unique identity document (DUI) or identification (ID).

What is DNI?

It is the national identity document that contains the date and place of birth, parents’ names, sex, complete residence address and a photo of size 32 × 26 millimeters, with a white background. It will have more or less data depending on the country that issues the identification.

The DNI or NIF number , as it is also known, is made up of a string of 9 characters: 8 numeric digits and a letter at the end.

Depending on the country of issue, the DNI can generate certain types of benefits for its bearer, such as traveling between the countries of some organizations without the need for a visa or passport.

Obtaining the printed document is mandatory for young people between 11 and 14 years old, ages that it is necessary to have identification to enter schools, universities and more.

Mainly in Argentina, Spain, and Peru the DNI is issued with that denomination. In others such as Bolivia, Chile, Uruguay and Venezuela it is known as an identity card and it is somewhat different in terms of the design and amount of information.

How to calculate the letter at the end of the DNI code?

It is very easy to calculate the letter that accompanies the DNI number, you just have to divide the number by 23 and the rest you get, you must replace it with a letter from the following table:

0 = T 12 = N

1 = R 13 = J

2 = W 14 = Z

3 = A 15 = S

4 = G 16 = Q

5 = M 17 = V

6 = Y 18 = H

7 = F 19 = L

8 = P 20 = C

9 = D 21 = K

10 = X 22 = E

11 = B

In this way, if the number is 12345999 ÷ 23 = 536782 with remainder 13. The letter J corresponds, leaving 12345999J.
