Examples of countable and uncountable nouns

The nouns are words that identify kinds of things, people, objects or animals and work as a subject in a sentence. Within the vast classification that can be made in relation to nouns are those that are countable nouns and those that are uncountable nouns .

Definition of countable nouns

Countable nouns are those that, as their name indicates, can be counted or quantified . That is, it is possible to divide into elements (parts) since their consistency is solid and divisible into units. A countable noun is tree. Then it is possible to count a tree, two trees, a hundred trees, a thousand trees, etc.

Definition of uncountable nouns

On the other hand, there are  uncountable nouns that, precisely, it is not possible to quantify. They can only be split (in certain cases and not in others) but they do not have a unit. Is an uncountable noun the water ; in this case it is not possible to say  one water, two waters, but rather that “there is much , little or some water” but it is not correct to mention these as if they had unity since they do not. However, it is correct to say: a glass of water because in this case glass is a countable noun and what is being indicated is “a glass ”containing water .
