It is a type of disease that is generally of long duration or of long periods and slow progression. A specific time is not stipulated to be able to define a chronic disease, however, they usually last a period of little more than six months.

It is important to note that some of the main characteristics of this type of disease are its duration , which is usually long, and its slow development or evolution , apart from taking into account that many of them are not contagious.

There are many causes that can generate this type of disease ; They can range from a poor diet to stress, they can be contagious or simply be genetic. Each of them has particular characteristics that define them.

Many of these diseases are commonly known , while others remain anonymous, affecting only a small group of the world’s population.

Studies ensure that in a few years, this type of chronic disease will be responsible for more than ¾ of deaths worldwide. That is why its evolution and development in the world must be viewed with vital importance.

Example of chronic diseases

1.    Sleep apnea

It is a disorder that prevents a person from stopping breathing for a long period while sleeping. This results in extreme fatigue during the day as well as physical imbalance.

2.    Multiple sclerosis

It is a type of disease that affects mostly young adults. This disease, like many chronic diseases, has no cure, however, the treatments that are currently available help to control this disease.

3.    AIDS

It is a disease that is contagious and causes significant deterioration in the immune system of the person who suffers it. This disease has no cure; it only has treatments that only prolong life and help cope with the disease.

4.    Epilepsy

It is a type of chronic disease that generates seizures in the person who suffers from it. Despite not having a cure, there are treatments that help improve the condition of the affected person.

5.    Hypertension

It is a type of disease that causes alteration in the blood pressure of the person who suffers it. Its main characteristic is the increase in blood pressure continuously and constantly. This chronic disease has no cure, however, with the right medications it can be treated.
