Examples of carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are also known as saccharides, carbohydrates, or carbohydrates. These are biomolecules that are made up of three elements: carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Its primary function in living things (whatever they are) is to give them energy immediately.

Carbohydrates are defined as those foods whose function is to provide energy to the body, especially the brain and nervous system.

As carbohydrates are composed of an enzyme called amylase which is broken down within the body and this causes the body to use it as fuel.

Although the name “carbohydrate” or “carbohydrate” is not completely correct because they are not hydrated carbohydrate molecules, they are the terms most known to all, especially since it is used in the world of diets.

The function of carbohydrates is that the body has fuel, giving energy to its cells. You will be responsible for keeping your muscles, blood pressure, gut, neurons, and body temperature working all the time and in the right way. They give immediate energy to the cells but also in reserve for emergencies.

Depending on the type, carbohydrates are found in many foods. If you want simple carbohydrates , you can get them in the following:

  1. Fruits, such as banana , mango, apple, grapes, melon, watermelon, among others.
  2. Vegetables and greens, such as lettuce, spinach, cauliflower, or carrot.
  3. Dairy products, such as heavy cream, whole milk, yogurt, or cheese .

There are also complex carbohydrates , found in foods that are high in starch. Some examples below:

  1. Vegetables such as potatoes or sweet potatoes.
  2. Cereals like oatmeal or rice .
  3. Legumes such as chickpeas, beans, soybeans, peanuts, lentils, and others.
  4. Pasta, of any kind, even if they are whole.

They are also found in refined and processed sugars , such as the following:

  1. Syrups or syrups, such as those that are placed on ice cream . There are strawberry, caramel and chocolate.
  2. Fizzy drinks, especially non-diet drinks.
  3. Processed games, the one with orange, pear, apple. They tend to have a lot of sugar content in small servings.
  4. Granulated sugar

  23. Meat, beef liver, pork.
  24. Among the simple carbohydrates you can consume: fruits, meringues and dairy.
  25. Complex carbohydrates: you eat cereals such as rice, oatmeal, potatoes.
  26. For the fibrous ones there are: broccoli, carrots, asparagus.
  27. The sweets and sodas with carbohydrates that give you energy.
  28. Carbohydrates should be consumed daily but in small amounts.

Types of carbohydrates

According to their chemical structure, there are four types of carbohydrates, namely:

  • Monosaccharides: are those carbohydrates that are made up of a single molecule. They are considered as the main source of energy for the body and contribute to the process of formation of cellular components.
  • Disaccharides:  they are made up of two monosaccharide molecules. When hydrolyzed, they give rise to two free monosaccharides. Among the disaccharides we can mention sucrose, maltose, cellobiose and lactose.
  • Oligosaccharides:  the structure of this carbohydrate is variable and is generally composed of three to nine monosaccharide molecules. These molecules are linked through bonds and can be released when a hydrolysis process is carried out.
  • Polysaccharides:  these are chains composed of more than ten monosaccharides and their main task is to store or structure the process.
