Coexistence rules

The rules of coexistence are those that are established in a community, workplace or home, so that the relationship between their co-inhabitants is cordial and harmonious. They are rules that aim to benefit all those involved in coexistence, respecting their rights and duties.

It is not a standard manual created by a national or international institution, to which everyone must adhere. It is a guide that each leader or community members must design together so that every detail is taken care of and there are no discrepancies or disagreements.

Importance of the rules of coexistence

The rules of coexistence help create an environment of respect and empathy among the members of a community or group of people who must live together on a daily basis.

If certain rules are not established in a company, house or building, some people may not be serious about respecting the privacy or rights of their neighbors or colleagues . Nor could they appeal to morals and good customs, to take care of the facilities or take any other action that damages coexistence in any way.

The rules also function as a guarantee to sanction those who do not comply with them, and thereby make them stop violating them. If there are no rules, it cannot be proved that a fault has occurred.

Each group or community will be able to create its own rules and ensure that everyone complies with them. Only community members may or may not approve such rules.

Examples of coexistence rules

There are very simple rules that hardly function as a reminder of what a person should do to promote respect and cordiality with others, others can be more complex if other rules are involved, such as those of the workplace, for example.

  • Say please and thank you when appropriate.
  • Not scream.
  • Greet you cordially.
  • Request and wait to speak.
  • Treat everyone around you with respect and kindness.
  • Share some resources if possible.
  • Do not physically or verbally abuse others.
  • Be polite when arriving at a place.
  • Apologize when a mistake or harm is made against someone.
  • Respect the beliefs of other people.
  • Do not violate schedules.
  • Listen carefully when they speak to you.
  • Help and respect superiors.
  • Not lie.
  • To be responsible.
  • Respect the alien and the privacy of others.
  • Do not judge others, at least without proof.
  • Accept the consequences of your mistakes.
  • Protect the assets of the company / community.
